History

The history of the Department of Environmental Engineering dates back to the Sanitary Engineering Course which was one of the three courses in the Department of Civil Engineering, when Kyoto Imperial University was founded. Based on this course, the Department of Sanitary Engineering which consists of four courses, and Department of Sanitary Engineering at Graduate School were established in 1958. The research group which had comprised the Department of Sanitary Engineering, the Department of Environmental Engineering and the Department of Environmental Global Engineering has been further advanced and expanded with new courses and fields through the several reorganizing, and now forms Department of Environmental Engineering. We have consistently been highly-evaluated over the years as a Japan’s leading education/research institute of Environment Engineering. Today, we work with Graduate School of Global Environmental Studies, Kyoto University as well as Graduate School of Energy Science, Kyoto University to address the resolution of environmental issues.
